BIOGRAPHY & RESUME
Elizabeth Gregory-Gruen’s Cut Work series uses a free hand paper cutting process that charts the contours of our ever-changing emotional experience through the movement of form, line, and color. The dimensional layers move with vibration, creating candid images that explore the behavior of shadow and light. There are no rules, drawings or plans in the process. Imperfection is perfection. Using bold gestural cutting to convey the intensity and complexity of our inner lives to engage with the emotion and imagination of the viewer.
Gregory-Gruen grew up in Chicago. Her mother and grandmother were artists, introducing Elizabeth to visual thinking. She attended Parsons School of Design in NYC, receiving a BFA in Fashion Design. In her design work she discovered a language of movement in the human condition, leading to the development of her imagery in drawings and cut paper. Elizabeth began exhibiting her Cut Work series in 2008. In 2018 she had a solo retrospective show at Howl Gallery in NYC and continues to exhibit her work. Elizabeth currently resides in New York City.
She currently resides in New York City with her husband Bob Gruen.
