Charismatic Barrett will install the sculpture on Friday, August 7th. Increasingly, with the opening and continued success of several contemporary galleries and artists studios, Shelter Island is becoming a showcase for both nationally recognized and emerging artists. Barrett reinforces this by introducing a dashing splash of color to Shelter Island's main street.
New York artist, Kevin Barrett brings a deeply felt expressive content, energy, and rhythmic unity to the inherent strength and durability of his chosen medium. His success is well-documented; his sculptures and wall reliefs have been widely exhibited and can be found throughout the United States and in Europe, both in public and private collections. Art critic, Robert C. Morgan describes Barrett's work with praise, "In these remarkable, colorful, aluminum constellations, Kevin Barrett offers another possibility for the future. Rather than cynical exhaustion, these interrelated shapes are woven together not as absolute forms, but as decoys that keep slipping in and out of place before our eyes."
ABOUT KEVIN BARRETTKevin Barrett, a third generation artist, has been surrounded by abstract sculpture and painting his entire life. His welded aluminum sculptures and wall reliefs reflect a successful blending of these two disciplines. Born in Michigan, Kevin learned about materials, structure, figurative forms, and eventually, the elegance of abstract forms from his father, sculptor Bill Barrett. Barrett's studio is in NYC where he resides with his family. |
